‘Syracuse-upon-Wye’
The series, ‘Syracuse-upon-Wye’ comes from sketches made in 2017 made in the sunshine from a balcony in Syracuse. I drew the jagged line of coastal defences. Their crude appearance contrasts with the elegant city that they were installed to defend. The drawings shown here were made throughout the winter of 2018-19 in Wales from my boat on the river Wye, where the mud and cold water of the river gradually seeped into the fabric of my Sicilian memory.
